So my dad is 81, and he just got bad pneumonia. He was poorly treated at a hospital and got in bad shape. Also he was a smoker for many years so his lungs weren't great before that. He was transferred and ended up on a ventilator. He's been in this hospital since Saturday. Monday they took him off the ventilator and kept him on bipap. He couldn't sleep on bipap. He was freaking out, understandably. Tuesday they took him off bipap and told him to sleep with it at night. He wouldn't put it last night. We tried but he freaked out. He's been waking himself up and complaining that dark figures are coming when he shuts his eyes. I spoke to the medical team and they prescribed melatonin, which is not helping. I'm sleeping in the hospital with him and he wakes me up every time he's terrified. I dunno what to do.
Okay so when my boyfriend used to wear condoms, I never had any issues with UTIs, then he ran out of condoms and never bothered getting anymore so I said that was fine as long as he would pull out in time.
But 99% everytime we have unprotected sex, I will have discomfort in my bladder and when I wee it's painful and when I get prescribed antibiotics the discomfort goes, but will come back again after we have sex again.
And I'm not sure why this is. Is it my partner not wearing condoms that are causing the UTIs?? It's fine getting prescribed antibiotics but why should I be getting UTIs every time we do it? Shouldn't have to keep taking antibiotics and it's getting on my nerves!! Feeling so much discomfort right now...
I can't imagine anyone else has this problem with unprotected sex, so this is why I'm just confused..
Just a note before i write this post, me and my boyfriend do not have any sexually transmitted diseases, and we both only had sex with each other and no one else. And I have gone to drs about this but just keep giving my antibiotics, so I'm asking for advice on here, but I will still go and see a doctor. And my boyfriend is gonna start wearing condoms again as this happened more than a few times now..
Ever since I could remember sometimes when I’d lie my head down or lie my head back and close my eyes (sometimes even when I just lie my head down without closing them) I found that I suddenly couldn’t move at all anymore and all I could really do was twitch certain muscles (sometimes it would be my finger or toe, sometimes I could twitch my face or my neck region) and I’d have to lock in and focus really hard on twitching those parts of my body “back to life”, usually once I regain control of the region that’s movable I start rapidly moving that one area and I shortly after regain control of my entire body again, sorta like I’m jumpstarting my own brain to grant myself movement again. I haven’t noticed any severe detriment in my health or mental health (I’m really smart actually and am highly capable of regular motor function) considering it’s been happening for 15 or so years now, but I always did find it strange, worst part is if I started drooling during this time I’d have to frantically attempt to regain control of my body to avoid looking strange in front of others
Side notes: I could see, hear, smell, taste, and feel what was happening around me, and I was fully conscious and could read and discern things, my body just momentarily loses nearly all movement, also I noticed it happens more frequently when I’m sleep deprived (it’s happened over 40+ times across 15 years at this point)
Hello so I am 17(M), and recently out of nowhere some small red dots like area started appearing on my penis head, I don t know why, haven’t gotten sexual just got an oral job from a girl(BJ) Which is my gf so it wasn’t some type of hooker or anything like that. Idk what to do, idk if it will go away on it s own, idk if I should go to a doctor, I am embarrassed so tell my parents about it

I just weed whacked a whole mess of poison hemlock and it took me like 5 minutes to realize what it was. And I only had eye protection on. I was wearing a sweatshirt with jeans tho so that’s good. But still, slightly worried. This happened about an hour ago.
23f Went to the er for uti on Monday, came back today Wednesday because of symptoms I was still having. I had told the triage nurse I took Advil earlier and it didn’t take away my pain, not sure if it got noted. (She wrote it on the computer) They brought me back to a room and did blood work then gave me 30mg toradol iv I didn’t think to bring up the Advil again because I already did and at this point I was in so much pain that it didn’t cross my mind. Now that I’m home, I’ve been searching it up and it’s saying that’s a big no no. Will be okay? I have health anxiety
Hey! i hit my hand somewhere at home (not important, it was an accident and I didn't hit it hard) and it immediately swelled. It happened a few weeks ago and I thought it was a normal reaction and didn't hurt that much. And then i completely forgot to check since it's so small and didn't give me pain. Today when I woke up I noticed the lump is still there and it hurts tiny bit when I rotate my hand. Nothing major but I feel discomfort. When i press on swollen area, it feels like a bone, it's hard. I know I should see a doctor but as funny as it sounds i'm not sure what kind of doctor to see. I never had similar problem before so I'm a bit worried and confused. It doesn't give me pain but I can clearly see the difference between my hands, the lump is there and it wasn't there before.
What kind of doctor should I see for this?
My partner has been dealing with chronic stomach issues for a couple years now. Recently, it’s tripled in the symptoms and pain. Every morning, earlier and earlier, they wake up with intense nausea, abdominal pain, and puking. They cannot hold any fluids down or food. The pain in their entire stomach is unbearable and causes bloating. Medications do not help and we have tried everything we can think of. Suppositories, Zofran, Omeprazole, Pepto, Tums, etc… It gets to the point that it lasts throughout the entire day, too. We brought them to the ER because they had puked blood (hemoglobin levels were fine, luckily) and they hadn’t ate or drank properly in about three days. The relief from nausea at the ER lasted an hour tops. That was after IV fluids and several rounds of medication.
I’m at a loss and I don’t know what to do. Obviously, we’re working with doctors but that’s a process. We’ve come up empty handed before with an endoscopy and colonoscopy. If anyone has ANY sort of information that could help… i’d be eternally grateful.
I only ever lurk on reddit, and this is a very TMI subject, but here goes -
My coworker and I are experiencing the exact same "spotting" with almost no correlation other than we work together. It's the consistency of the usual clear (slimy?) discharge that would happen during ovulation, but appears to be pink and bloody. What's odd is that neither of us have had discharge like this. We've had the usual pink spotting here and there, but this is plain ovulation discharge, just, blood colored? Idk man.
Here's some things we figure are important enough to note: Neither of us are on or scheduled anytime soon to get our periods. Hers ended two weeks ago, and mine just ended a week ago today. Neither of us could be pregnant - she uses an IUD - I'm on the pill (and not sexually active atm, boohoo). We work at the same place - Its a mom and pop retail store. The only thing we could have been exposed to at work is mold (I'm not sure how mold would effect our reproductive systems, but, worth mentioning?), and a lot of it. I have PCOS, and she doesn't have any hormonal/reproductive issues that we're aware of. Her "bleeding" started about two weeks after her period ended, lasted about eight days, and stopped two days ago. Has had abnormal amounts of 'regular' discharge since. Mine started about two days after my period ended, and is still ongoing (about six days so far). My "bleeding" is currently going from less pink to more red. We both have drastically different diets/lifestyles, so it *shouldn't* be related to that. The thing that has us so confused is the consistency of the "discharge/blood". The only thing that's blood-like is the physical discharge, anything else that comes up wiped is pink. Has anyone else experienced this? It's definitely not a period, and it's probably(???) not ovulation? Any thoughts or input would be helpful! We're both just so confused. It's weird that its happening to us at the same time, and that it's never happened before.
Side note about the mold!
The only reason we factor that into possibility, is that recently at the store we had some construction going on. When they ripped up the flooring, it was COVERED in mold. It was genuinely terrifying, the sheer amount of mold that had been growing for probably years at that point. The smell was HORRIBLE. They eventually bleached the whole room and grinded the floor down. This is the only possible thing we could think of that we were exposed to at the store that could cause some sort of health issue.
Any ideas on what this is? Thanks:D
I, 15f, am laying in bed trying to go to bed currently as I type this. This has been doing on for a day or two but this is definitely the worst it's been. I'm having really bad pain in my inner left ear (like not the shell of the ear, the inside) and hearing weird noises, I don't really know how to describe them. Clicking? Popping? Rustling? I don't really know. I've checked for liquid coming out of my ear a few times because of these noises but nothing. My throat hurts bad enough that it is painful to swallow anything, liquid included, on my left side mostly also. I really don't want to wake up my mom but I'll tell her I probably need to go to the doctor in the morning, nothing I do is making the pain go away.
To make a long story shortish, I have a tooth infection. Skip to near bottom if you dont need the full story 😅
Was put on antibiotics after my dumbass accidentally took too many painkillers in a 24 hour period to attempt to relieve the pain as I followed the "every 4 hours" advice (accidental overdose - was fine just told to be careful and was given better pain relief and clear advice on how often I can take them etc). Not sure if that's relevant but figured I'd put it anyway. Originally they started me on metronidazole but changed it to Clindamycin after my face showed signs of swelling from the infection. Was sent home from A+E with 7 day course of antibiotics but told to go Dentist for emergency appointment.
Couldn't get in that day or day after with any emergency dentist - did go back in to A+E as the swelling progressed suddenly and very painfully but a receptionist turned me away saying it wasn't their problem and if have yo just wait till howver long it took to see a dentist. My obs weren't taken despite my face visibly swelling up and my explaining I felt hot, shivery and felt like I was having to breathe deeper to get air. Rang 111 again, they ensured they'd get me a spot at emergency dentist that morning as well as reassuring me to go A+E if I feel temperature going up, fainting, sickness or struggling to breathe.
YESTERDAY!! 111 helped me snag an emergency spot at dentist. Tooth is fucked but can't be removed yet due to the amount of swelling and needing to control the infection a bit more. Told to continue the pain relief and Clindamycin (which I have taken before) and he will reassess/attempt the extraction in 2 days. He did managed to take out a crappy filling in the same tooth as the amount of swelling/tooth crap had left it basically "just wiggling around in the gap". However, since then I've been developing light sensitive headaches, my necks been getting stiff and occasionally the pain is so bad I feel like I need to scream. So I'm on my (as of today) 4th day of antibiotics and the swelling doesn't seem smaller. The swelling gives off a crazy heat, and I constantly have a terrible taste in my mouth. At the time I saw the dentist, it was a very mild headache I put down to not eating much.
Used to train as a nurse wo, to me, alarm bells are going "meningitis or sepsis...noone been checking your temperature since the swelling started!". Important to note I am sleep deprived as hell - I struggle getting out of bed, constantly exhausted but the pain wakes me up every couple of hours.
Am I being classic hypochondriac or is this something to keep an eye on/contact someone about? I've been toying contacting 111 again but I dont want to keep wasting their time as I have an appointment to see the dentist...but I've had sepsis before and know just how fast it spreads.
Any thought for an anxious woman with a current blowfish face? 😅😅😅
Edit - I'm on Paracetamol, ibuprofen, oramorph and Clindamycin currently but dentist wants me to swap from oramorph to codeine once I've used the oramorph up. Also only thing I can drink is water and I'm going through easily a litre or so a day. Sleeping with head elevated (almost upright it's that elevated 😅)
If orthostatic hypotension is caused by dropping blood pressure due to changes in position,
and there is a known phenomenon that tensing the legs and abdomen can allow one to raise their blood pressure, say enough to avoid passing out in a fighter jet pulling multiple g's,
and children-who-are-younger-than-when-we-form-memories are spending all their time figuring out how to use our bodies to do things like standup without falling over or passing out,
does that mean that the people who have orthoststic hypotension problems actually just forgot how to do this little regulation technique that we all normally do without having to try?
I believe that both phenomena are explained by the vagal nerve branches that lie under the ear and down the neck, as well as behind the sternum, being compressed and decompressed.
The fighter jet pilots seem to constrict almost all vagus nerve branches in order to keep their blood pressure high enough to stay awake (not pass out).
A person sitting or laying in a position that puts pressure on the vagus nerve would have been giving signals to their body to raise their blood pressure, and the body would eventually compensate and refigure this level of pressure to be normal and return to a standard blood pressure.
Standing would cause those signals to suddenly plummet giving them the head rush and potential syncope of orthostatic hypotension, potentially aided by standing requiring them to coordinate more muscle moves than just sitting, causing increased strain on the brain, potentially lowering or stopping the muscle control that regulate the blood pressure, if only for an instant, and once the hypotension starts, the brain has a harder time regulating anything leading to something like a cascade event.
If I'm the only one who experiences it like that then I guess maybe I have a form of seizure disorder, but this is a thing that's been happening to me my whole life, the hypotension wobbles.
I don't have a medical degree but I have been observing myself as I recover from some neurological damage and dang, it seems like there's a lot of stuff that is consciously controllable but we've relegated the regulation to the subconscious.
Like I don't know how many people have ever had the occurrence where you maybe have to pee, but then you start to plan or think really hard about something and suddenly it's an emergency.
That's because the skill you developed as an infant to be able to ignore your need to pee is something that your whole brain can do, but the less of your brain you use to ignore the bladder strain, the more aware you are of the needing to pee.
This phenomenon seems to be most common at the end of the day for me, when I am starting to get words or actions mixed up (like saying the word for what I'm looking at instead of what I meant to say at the end of a long sentence, or suddenly getting all the buttons mixed up 8 times in a row in a video game that I already know and have been playing with no problems for over an hour).
I have also been stretching out my carpal tunnel; as that gets better and the fine sensation returns to my hands, I am wondering how much of the brain's bandwidth can be taken up by simply blocking out background aches that we have from not stretching or from refusing to accept that one can no longer consume dairy products with impunity (or any sort-of-low level food sensitivities).
So I woke up and noticed a small red spot right under my iris, just centimeters from my actual iris ring. It doesn't hurt, it's just a normal broken blood vessel, but I've never had a popped blood vessel in my eye before so it makes me curious.
Will it get worse while I'm sleeping? Can rubbing my eye make it worse? Is there anything I can do to make it better quicker? I know Google says it goes away within a week or two on its own, just wondering if I can do anything to speed the process up?
